Comments and markup

Comment on a row or an area of a log, mark it up, and work through the replies.

Everyone on the project can comment on its logs. Comments and marks are shared: other people's new ones appear within half a minute, or as soon as you come back to the page.

Comment

Pick Comment on the toolbar (C), then:

  • click a row, a box or a spot to comment on it, or
  • drag down the log to comment on a depth range. Drag across columns to cover just those columns, for example the level, depth, legend and description of one stratum.

The comment box sits beside the area, which stays outlined while you write. Use @ to mention someone on the project. Ctrl Enter posts; Esc cancels. On a data row, Change a value instead opens the edit card.

A comment over a depth range shows a faint wash over its area; pick it, or point at its pin, to see its outline.

Comments stay with the data

A comment is attached to its row or depths, not to a spot on the page. Change the template or the scale and it moves with them. One that can't be shown on this view is listed under Not on this view, with a picture of where it was raised.

Mark up

Beside Comment are the Pen (P), Highlighter (H) and Revision cloud (R). Point at a tool to pick its colour.

  • Highlights and clouds cover a depth range down the columns you drag over: drag down the strata, and across to take in more columns. They redraw at any scale.
  • Pen strokes are freehand, and are kept with the template and scale they were drawn on.

After drawing, add a note to say what the mark is about. Drag your own marks to move them, or a highlight's or cloud's top or bottom edge to change its depths.

The Comments tab

The Comments tab lists what is open on the location in view, or on every location.

  • The count at the top switches between Open, Closed and All, which also decides the pins shown on the log.
  • Filter groups the list by location, reading order, type or person.
  • N and Shift N step through open comments in reading order.

Open a comment to Reply, Resolve it once dealt with (it moves under Closed), or from the ... menu Reopen, Edit or Delete it. You can edit and delete only your own comments and replies. Ctrl Z takes back your own last change.

Notifications

The bell in the top bar shows what others have done: comments, replies, and anywhere you were @mentioned, with a Mentions tab of its own. Pick one to go to it.

The comment register

Export > Comment register downloads a CSV of every comment, flag and checked finding, location by location, with who raised and closed each.
