Core concepts

Configurations, projects, locations, tables, fields, records, views, flags and AGS.

Manage works on the same structured data as the rest of GIMLabs. A handful of concepts explain everything you see.

Configuration

A configuration is the profile that defines the tables, fields, units, lists and laboratories your company's data uses. Every project belongs to one, chosen when the project is created. Administrators manage configurations in Product OS.

Project

A project is the site or investigation you are working on. It carries an ID, a name, a status (Open, Closed or Archived) and details like client and contractor. Everything else - locations, data, exports - belongs to a project.

Location

A location is a point of investigation within a project - a borehole, trial pit or monitoring point. Most other data hangs off a location.

Table and field

A table is a named block of data - Location Details, Samples, In-situ Tests. Tables are arranged as parent and child tables. A field is a single column within a table, with a type (text, number, list, date and more) that decides how you edit it. See The table editor.

Record

A record is one row of data - one location, one sample, one test result. In Manage you can create, edit, flag and delete records, and they sync across the platform.

View

A view is a saved combination of filters, sorts and column layout in the table editor. Views can be saved at project level or shared across a configuration. See Filtering, sorting and views.

Flag

A flag marks a record for review, with a note, a priority (Lowest to Highest) and a status (Unresolved or Resolved). Flags are raised in the field or by validation, and reviewed here.

AGS

AGS is the industry data-transfer standard for ground investigation. Manage imports and exports AGS files across versions, alongside CSV. See the import and export guides.
