Adding and editing records

Work the grid - add, edit and delete records, switch tables and collections, and log at speed.

A location's data is captured as records in a grid, one grid per table. This is where most of your time in Log is spent.

Switch tables

The table menu lists the location's tables. Parent tables sit at the top level; their child tables nest underneath. Each table shows a record count so you can see where you are up to. Tap a table to load its records into the grid.

Switch collections

If a location uses more than one collection, use the collection switcher at the top of the screen. The tables and fields change to match the collection you select, so the form always fits how you are working.

Add a record

Open a blank form

Tap Add (+). A form opens with the table's fields.

Fill it in

Enter each field. Required fields are marked, and some fields offer helpers like defaults and previous values - see Fields and entry helpers.

Save

Tap the tick to save the record. It appears in the grid.

Create more

For rapid entry, turn on the Create more switch before saving. Log keeps the form open and ready for the next record, so you can log stratum after stratum or sample after sample without reopening the form each time.

Built for speed on site

Create more pairs well with previous values and defaults - log one record, then reuse what carries over and change only what differs.

Edit or delete a record

Tap a record in the grid to select it. From there you can:

  • Edit it - reopen the form with its values to change them,
  • open its child data or add a flag,
  • Delete it - Log asks you to confirm first.

Open child data

Some records carry a further table of nested data - specialised records like soakaway or water strike data. Select that record and choose Child data to open them. See Child tables and depth links.
