# Export preferences

> Set which log template and depth scale each location uses when exporting PDF logs.

**Export preferences** control how each location renders as a PDF **log** - which
template it uses and at what depth scale - overriding the configuration's defaults.
You set them from the table editor, for the whole project or one location at a
time.

## Project preferences

The **Export preferences** button in the table editor toolbar sets the defaults for
this project. Each entry maps a **location type** (for example *Borehole* or *Trial
Pit*) to:

- a **log** to render it with - a single log, or a **segment log** (a combined log
  made of segments), and
- a **depth mode**: **metres per page** or a **scale** (for example 1:50). Sheet
  logs and some legacy logs fix this for you.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Pick the location type">
    Choose the location type to set up.
  </Step>
  <Step title="Choose the log">
    Pick the **log** (or **segment log**) to render it with.
  </Step>
  <Step title="Set the depth">
    Choose **metres per page** or a **scale**, enter the value, and save.
  </Step>
</Steps>

Where you have not added an entry, locations of that type fall back to the
configuration's template-set defaults.

## Per-location overrides

On the **Locations** table, each row has an **export-preference** column - a cog
icon, brand-coloured when an override is set. Click it to give that one location
its own log and depth, or to **clear** the override and fall back to the project
and configuration defaults.
