# Editing on the log

> Click what a log shows and change the data behind it, without leaving the log.

On **Pro**, you can correct a log where you read it: click the text, change the value,
and the log redraws. On other plans the same card shows the values, read only.

## Open the edit card

With **Pick** chosen on the toolbar (**V**), point at the log: what can be opened gets a
dashed outline. Click a description, a sample, a table cell or a header box to open the
**Edit** card beside it.

## What it is made from

The card lists the fields the clicked text is built from, in the table editor's order,
each with the table editor's own input. Required fields have an asterisk and key fields
a key.

- **Other fields** opens the rest of the row's fields, the ones the log doesn't draw.
- A field from another of the location's tables (pit stability, say) can be changed
  here when that table has a single row; otherwise the card says how many rows it has
  and to change it in the table editor.
- Text that comes from the location, the project, or is worked out from rows says so,
  and isn't edited here.

## Save

A note shows while there are changes: they change the data itself, and are recorded in
the row's history. Press **Save to data** (or **Enter** in a one-line box); **Esc**
drops the changes. The log redraws with the new value, which pulses until it arrives.

<Callout type="tip" title="Boundaries move together">
  Changing a stratum's top or base offers to move the next one's base or top with it,
  so no gap or overlap opens up. Changing the deepest base offers to set the
  location's final depth too: ticked when the two matched, unticked (saying so) when
  they didn't or the final depth is empty.
</Callout>

From the card you can also choose **Comment on this**, or **Flag** a data row (see
[Checks and flags](/manage/logs-and-sheets/checks-and-flags#flags)).
