# The Builder

> Compose consistent, structured descriptions from your standard terms.

The **Builder** helps you write long, structured text - like a soil or rock
description - from your company's standard terms, so descriptions come out
consistent and quick to enter.

## When you see it

A field set up as a **Builder** field opens the Builder when you tap it, instead
of a plain text box. Which fields use it is decided by your configuration.

## Building a description

  <Step title="Pick a builder and category">
    Choose the **Builder** and **Category** for what you are describing. These
    come from your configuration and set which terms are offered.

  <Step title="Add your terms">
    Pick items from the **List Names** and **List Items** to build the
    description, in the order your standard calls for.
  </Step>
  <Step title="Tidy the text">
    Use the quick buttons for punctuation and common words, and the formatting
    helpers, to finish the wording.
  </Step>
  <Step title="Save">
    Tap the tick to drop the finished description back into the field. An
    **undo** is there if you need to step back.
