# Sign in and access

> Open Insight in your browser, sign in, and understand view and export access.

Insight is a web app, so there is nothing to install - you open it in your
browser and sign in with your GIMLabs account. It is included on **every plan**,
on both **Go** and **Pro**.

## Requirements

- A modern web browser.
- A **GIMLabs account** at a company with an active subscription.
- The **View** permission for Insight on your account (see
  [Access and permissions](#access-and-permissions)). If you cannot get in, your
  company administrator manages access.

## Opening Insight

You can reach Insight two ways:

<Steps>
  <Step title="From Product OS">
    Sign in at [os.gimlabs.io](https://os.gimlabs.io) and open the **Insight**
    card from your dashboard.
  </Step>
  <Step title="Directly">
    Go straight to [insight.gimlabs.io](https://insight.gimlabs.io) and sign in.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Signing in

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the sign-in page">
    Go to [insight.gimlabs.io](https://insight.gimlabs.io). You are taken to the
    sign-in page.
  </Step>

    Sign in with your GIMLabs email and password.
  </Step>
  <Step title="You are in">
    You land on the **Explorer**, ready to pick a configuration and table.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Callout type="warning" title="Sign-in problems">
  "Incorrect email or password" means the credentials did not match. Sign-in can
  also be refused if your account is not active or your company's subscription is
  inactive. See [Troubleshooting](/insight/troubleshooting).
</Callout>

## Access and permissions

Insight is governed by two permissions on your role, set by your administrator:

| Permission | What it controls |
| --- | --- |
| **View** | Whether you can open Insight and browse data at all. Without it, Insight shows an **Access Denied** page. |
| **Export** | Whether the **CSV** and **JSON** export buttons appear. Without it, you can browse but not export. |

With **View** access you can see all of your company's project data in Insight.
Use [the project filter](/insight/explorer/filtering) to narrow to the projects
you care about.

<Callout type="note" title="No edit access needed">
  Insight is read-only, so it never needs - or offers - edit permissions. That
  makes View access safe to grant widely.
</Callout>

## Sessions

A **session** is your current signed-in use of Insight. While you are in the
Explorer, Insight checks your session in the background and signs you out if it
has ended - for example if an administrator ends it remotely to free a seat, or
it expires. If that happens you see a notice and are returned to the sign-in
page; sign in again when you are ready.

## Signing out

Use the account menu to sign out. Your session ends, and Insight clears the
Explorer view it remembered on this browser so the next person starts clean.
